Texturizing Agent and its various applications

Texturing agent is used to change the texture of food products; these are added to food to modify the overall texture and bring a change in the mouthfeel of foods. Food Texturing agents are food additives which are chemical substances, added to food in regulated quantities for the purpose of improving the texture and appearance of foods. Emulsifiers and stabilisers play a significant role in modifying the texture of foods. Phosphates and dough conditioners are also widely used as texturing agents and serve various functions in foods. The ingredients of food texturing agents are Cellulose derivatives, Gums, Pectins, Gelatins, Algae extract, Milk Proteins, Starch, Inulin and Dextr.

Texturing agents Applications:

  • Emulsifiers like mono- and diglycerides, lecithin and several synthetic derivatives are used in the food products to allow flavours and oils to disperse through the food items. Various natural gums and natural and modified starches are used as stabilisers to provide the required texture in food products like ice-cream. These texturing agents are increasingly being used in liquid and dry products. They play a good role in preventing deterioration and evaporation of volatile flavour oils.
  • Phosphates are commonly used as texturing agents for modifying the texture of starch or protein containing foods. These chemicals play a significant role in stabilising several meat and dairy products. The protein or starch content of such foods react with the phosphates and bring a change in the water-holding capacity of these food components.
  • Texturing agents play a key role in adding high value to the innovative food preparations. Therefore, the food industry is having keen interest in texturing agents. Since the texture and appearance of foods are important factors for the consumers and these are vital in deciding the quality, freshness and the harmlessness of products, the texturing agents are playing important role in the European food market. Moreover, there have been significant changes in the household scenario with increasing number of one and two member households, working women and penetration of microwave ovens. Under such circumstances demand for "snack" or ready to cook meals has increased remarkably. These products require much more detailed technical specifications, elaborate industrial processes and there need to be increased attention to ensure their stability for longer time. For the food industry manufacturers, thus, texturing agents have come up as the key elements for success.
  • The wide range of applications of Texturing agents include Dairy products & Ice creams, Confectionery & Chocolate, Jams, Layers, Fillings, Bakery, Biscuits, Snacks, Meat, ready-to-eat food, Petfood, Sauces, Dressings, Soups, Solid Fatty substances and Beverages.
  • Texturing agents coatings are additives which are used to modify the surface of coatings. These texturing agents offer friction reduction, antiblocking effects, frost effects, antislip effects and soft effects. POWDER COATINGS TEXTURE AGENT is used in Boat Paint, Building Coating, Appliance Paint, Car Paint, Paper Coating, Plastic Coating, Electrical Insulating Varnish, Road Marking Paint, Furniture Paint and Rubber Coating.
  • Texturing agents can play a vital role in innovative cosmetic preparation. New texturing agents are being invented that are going to give astonishing textures to cosmetics.
